We all need to memorize Scripture. The psalmist stored up the Word of God in his heart to help him not sin against God (Psalm 119:11). That alone should motivate us to memorize the Word…
But we need to memorize for more.
More is at stake than just memorizing verses for our own walk with God – we should memorize verses to serve and strengthen our fellow believers, our fellow strugglers and stragglers.
We have a part in each others growth. Your community needs you to memorize Scripture. I don’t say that in a “needy-puppy” way, but that this is part of God’s design.
For instance, how will you teach and admonish others? (Which all Christians are commanded to do)
Paul tells us how: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” – Col. 3:16
Dwell in the word. Live in the word. Steep in the word.
Memorize the word and memorize for more than you have ever dreamed.
